The AFA research grant is a teaching grant designed to help farriers learn the scientific method while creating peer-review worthy data relevant to the practice of farriery. To do this we have created a two step application process.
The first step asks that an applicant give us an outline of their project, their resume, and a cover letter. They may choose at this point an academic mentor who has published at least once, or they can work with the AFA research committee between the applications to get a mentor that suits them. If they choose a mentor that mentor's credentials must be a part of the cover letter in step one.
Deadline October 30, 2020.

In step two the new team of mentor-farrier applicants will submit a formal grant application together. These applications are reviewed by other academics and at least one farrier who has been trained in review. The highest scored applicants are further reviewed by the committee and based on the year's budget one or two grants will be funded at about $1500-$5000. There is an example page and the directions to both steps posted on this page. For 2020 the due dates are October 30th for the first step, and January 30th for the second step. Awardees will be formally announced at AFA convention, and those who have completed works will also be honored. Contact Katie Panos at 603-660-8126 or email the committee at email@example.com for help, guidance, details, etc.
Deadline January 30, 2021.
